TODAY THE WORDS are YIELDING FOR THE RIGHT OF WAY. When it comes to a four way stop, how many of us really know who has the actual right of way? According to Reference.com: The presence of a four way stop sign means that there are four stop signs at this intersection. Traffic from each of the four directions are required to stop. Typically the first vehicle at the intersection should move forward first. If two vehicles reach the intersection at the same time, the driver on the right would have the right of way. What about a two way stop sign; does it work the same? I checked several references and it refers to the same rules except eliminate the other two stop signs. How many times have you been waved through by the other driver, only to wonder if they truly had the right of way and they pull out after they waved you through; whose fault would it be? All I can say is the best rule of thumb is to be very careful, make sure you have the right of way or stay where you are. In today’s world, people can look for ways to commit fraud and claim injuries. I will give you a hint however before making this decision….If the other driver waving you on is driving a current model and/or luxury car, most likely they are more worried you are going to hit them if they pull out. If they are driving a clunker……Stay still! I say all of this to be a little light hearted this morning for a reason. I have noticed a trend toward people starting to tense up lately. As we move toward the holiday season, a time of year when we should be looking forward to Christ’s birthday and instead, I am seeing the worried look on every one’s faces (or a lot of them) and this worries me (see it is infectious). Life is about living and loving; giving and receiving; caring and being cared about; forgiving and seeking forgiveness. While this is the theme of life in my opinion, Christmas, especially is meant to be peaceful and full of joy. We cannot take the worries of life out of life; we can choose to have joy and peace in life. I knew from yesterday how a change of this worry can happen. At the office, I was not proudly stating I used to have such a horrible temper and would even through things and I would not have thought twice about engaging in a fight if someone was harming a loved one. This person, who has come to work with us, looked at me and said the most precious words I could hear, “I can’t see you doing that at all”. I thought, “God, when I yielded to you and knew you had “the right of way”, it has changed my life in ways people notice and I can wait my turn and go through any stop signs of life. Live life; love life; and live life to the fullest by recognizing who in this Universe has the ultimate “right of way”.
