TODAY THE WORDS are THE OTHER HALF. So many times, I have used this phrase to describe my husband and I have heard him refer to each other as “my other half”. It is even a synonym for spouse of either sex so we are not speaking out of turn. We have used better half too but usually smile when we use that one as if expecting a rebuttal from the other half to dispute it and say the other one is the better half. So let’s look at this phrase and see if it is truly applicable to marital states. If we cut an apple or orange in two halves, we have actually constructed this scenario of the other half. We have two pieces which are almost identical in size (if we are good cutters) and they look very similar. However, we want to take our thoughts a little deeper because even though the two halves laying there from the top view are almost exactly the same, if you turn them over, you will see a total different look. One is the top of the orange and one is the bottom so there are significant visual differences as there are in couples; the male and female have different statures and facial features. If we think about it, however similar sometimes one part of an orange tastes differently; one half sweet but the other half even sweeter. Have you noticed this in most couples? I think we are moving toward the reason we use “my other half”. Maybe we can eat half an orange and be satisfied and that explains how some people don’t seem to “their other half” and can live alone and thrive. But more times than others, it satisfies us to enjoy “both halves” and I have lived singly and I have been married as I am truly with my other half who makes me whole and I know the meaning of two halves make a whole. Life is meant to share it with another person who gets you, loves you, accepts those little habits or quirks we all have, who forgives you when you make a mistake or says the wrong thing, and is there by your side through thick and thin. Now for the deeper thought…..God is “the other half of our faith” and we can try to make it on our own until we realize…..Two halve really do make a whole and life is sweeter when we form a complete bond with our spouse and allow God to add the spiritual sweetness to our lives.
DAILY FEATURED BIBLE VERSE:
Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.
