TODAY THE WORDS are GO FISH. When all else feels out of place, it is time to escape this world as we know it to be stressful and sometimes filled with things out of our control, I like to think of simpler days and ways. When we were small, there was a card game we played called Go Fish. Cards are dealt to each player and the remaining cards are placed in a “fishing hole stack” in the middle of the table. A player starts the game by asking a player for a certain rank such as “Sue, give me all your 9’s” and if Sue has any 9’s she has to give them to you. If she gives them up, you get another turn but if she doesn’t have 9’s, she can say “GO FISH” and you have to pick up the top card in the fishing hole. If it is a 9, you get another turn. If not, the player that said GO FISH is the next player. The game continues until the fishing hole is drained or a player is totally out of cards. The best “fisherman” is the winner by who has the most sets of 4 matching cards. I have played GO FISH many, many times and sometimes won and sometimes lost. For some reason, when I got to say GO FISH, it was almost as much fun as winning so here comes my thought on this game. Why did I feel empowered by saying GO FISH? Was it telling someone else what to do that was important? Did I feel in control at that moment? Oh it was a game and not a turning point in my life, but why did I feel good when I said it? All of you who played or may still play this game know what I am referring to when I am saying this to you We got loud and we got proud. It meant some kind of control. Maybe, in this crazy, stressful world we live in with so many things we feel out of control, we need to say GO FISH! This may be a prelude when we were playing this silly card game to understand life is not always going to deal us a good hand and we have to play the hand we are given. While writing this, it came to me fishing has been in our lives even before we were born and it makes perfectly good sense we can turn it over to the greatest fisherman ever, who could fill the nets with a word, Jesus Christ. So maybe when we say GO FISH, we are really saying to Our Deliverer, fish for me and let me rest. You know how to fish better than me and I trust you to make the catch of the day! Live Life, Love Life, and Live Life to the Fullest by casting your net into the sea of love and share your great catch with others so they may feed on the Word.
DAILY FEATURED BIBLE VERSE:
5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
6 And when they had this done, they enclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
